Tecogen CHP Project Selected as Finalist for Urban Green Council Award
WALTHAM, Mass., July 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen® Inc. (NASDAQ: TGEN) today announced that a project in New York City involving three Tecogen Inverde-100 CHP units was selected as a finalist for one of the 2015 Urban Green Council EBie's awards. The award recognizes the most innovative green renovation project in the nation, particularly one that surmounted significant cost, institutional, and technological barriers using an innovative and scalable approach.
The Tecogen CHP system is part of an overall energy efficiency and design project at Roosevelt Landings, a large-scale residential complex located on Roosevelt Island in New York City. The project was led by Steven Winters Associates along with Urban American (UA), the owner and manager of Roosevelt Landings and Urban Greenfit, an energy service company (ESCO). The CHP portion of the project was completed by Tecogen and EVCO/KGS Buildings, the lead mechanical and M&V contractor.
The Tecogen system will provide significant savings on the building's electric and heating costs while reducing the carbon output attributed to the residence by over 1,600 tons of CO2 per year. In addition, the Tecogen Ultra emissions systems will dramatically reduce harmful pollutants contributing to smog (CO, NOx) as compared to traditional cogeneration technology.
"The Roosevelt Landing project is an excellent example of how CHP systems can provide dramatic savings while significantly improving the environmental footprint of a building," said Robert Panora, President and COO of Tecogen. "We have worked with Steven Winters and EVCO on many occasions, and acknowledge their achievement in being a finalist."
