Tecogen Sells Combined Heat and Power (CHP) System to Columbia Association
WALTHAM, Mass., June 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen® Inc. (NASDAQ: TGEN) today announced the sale of a CM-60 combined heat and power (CHP) module to the Columbia Association (CA) in Columbia, Maryland. The 60 kilowatt unit will be installed at the Supreme Sports Club, the largest of three full service fitness facilities operated by CA. In addition to providing electrical power to the facility, the CHP system will provide domestic hot water and pool heating at a far lower overall operating cost than the existing configuration.
"CA is continuously looking for opportunities to improve the energy efficiency of its operations and reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions," said Jeremy Scharfenberg, Energy Manager for Columbia Association. "Our Strategic Plan calls for environmental stewardship by incorporating innovative technology and conservation practices. In addition to the cost savings we will see with the CHP system, we value the environmental benefits that the Tecogen system will provide."
"We are delighted to be part of the CA community," said Robert Panora, President and COO of Tecogen. "CA has shown itself to be a leader in energy management and institutional sustainability. Tecogen systems are a perfect fit for organizations with significant electricity and thermal demands such as CA. We look forward to working with them."
Tecogen is providing the CHP system in an outdoor enclosure to be located adjacent to the fitness facility. Locating the unit outside is a cost-effective way to reduce cost of retrofitting mechanical areas for CHP. Tecogen will also provide skid-mounted plumbing assemblies that interface with domestic hot water and pool systems to allow cost-effective integration.
