Tecogen Sells Two 100 kW Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Units to Rising Upper East Side Apartment Building
WALTHAM, Mass., May 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen® Inc. (NASDAQ: TGEN) today announced the sale of two InVerde® Ultra, INV-100, combined heat and power (CHP) units to a rising (under construction) multi-residential apartment building located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The InVerde units will provide 200 kW of electricity, plus thermal energy in the form of hot water to heat the building and the potable water used by the residences in the 28-story, 400,000 square foot building.
In addition to the cost savings from natural gas-powered co-generation, Tecogen's patented low emissions system, Ultra, will nearly eliminate the production of criteria pollutants, the compounds contributing to smog.
Tecogen's units also provide emergency back-up power. This feature takes over when grid power is lost and keeps the building's lights on and elevators working during outages like those experienced in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
"We are seeing an uptick in new construction orders," said Robert Panora, Tecogen's President and Chief Operating Officer. "Our reputation for reliability, plus our technology's cost-savings and environmental benefits are proving to be the right solution for large, multi-residential buildings and hotels".
The building will have 231 apartments plus retail and a 46,000-square-foot school for children with learning disabilities. The new structure is expected to be ready in 2016.
This building has entered into a long-term maintenance contract with Tecogen.
