WALTHAM, Mass., Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen^® Inc. (NASDAQ: TGEN) today announced sales of Tecochill^® STx 200 ton natural gas-powered chillers to two major East Coast manufacturers.  The customers include US manufacturing facilities for two multinationals: a Sheffield, CT-based automotive products company and a Buffalo, NY-based active packaging components company.

The automotive manufacturer's Tecochill unit will air condition its entire plant.  The manufacturer chose to install a natural gas chiller instead of an electric chiller to maximize currently available power from their electric utility.  The plant has utilized its available margin of local power and if they installed electric chillers, the company would likely have faced barriers with expansion plans and lost flexibility to make process improvements.

The active packaging component company purchased Tecochill units to reduce energy costs, gain greater energy efficiency, and stabilize energy costs during the peak summer energy season when gas prices are low. This customer is also using Tecochill's waste heat recovery option to heat hot water for use in their manufacturing operation. The heat recovery option reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Each Tecogen unit provides 200 tons of cooling capacity commensurate to 120 kW if a conventional, electric system had been specified.  Both customers will benefit from Tecogen's Ultra technology. This patented technology nearly eliminates criteria pollutants (NOx and carbon monoxide) emissions.
