Tecogen Sells Two Additional Efficient Natural Gas Chillers to Major New York University
WALTHAM, Mass., Nov. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen® Inc. (NASDAQ: TGEN) today announced the sale of two STx Series TECOCHILL® natural gas-powered chillers to a major university located in the Bronx, New York.
The new chillers will provide 400 tons of cooling capacity to one of the University's libraries commensurate to 240 kW of reduction in peak electric usage if a conventional, electric system had been specified. The university currently operates two similar TECOCHILL models, commissioned in 2009, that provide air-conditioning to dormitories.
"Commercial and institutional facilities located in many major US cities pay dearly for summer electricity," said Robert Panora, President and COO of Tecogen. "Consolidated Edison customers in New York City are at the high end of the spectrum, but they are by no means unique. Tecogen natural gas powered chillers eliminate the portion of the electricity usage associated with the facility's air-conditioning load and replace it with low-cost summer natural gas. Similarly, secondary, punitive charges relating to monthly peak demand are proportionately reduced. All in all, the savings are dramatic."
The sale to the University also includes a long-term maintenance contract.
