Tecogen Continues Sales Momentum in Turnkey Cogeneration Market
WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen today announced that it has signed an agreement to deliver a turnkey Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system to a large, high-rise, 250-residence apartment building complex in San Francisco, California. The system is designed to provide an innovative, economical, and more energy-efficient technology for the buildings.
As more facilities are looking at the benefits of implementing CHP -- such as greater reliability, control and value -- Tecogen is putting a greater focus on turnkey and installation partnerships with clients, and, with American DG Energy, serve the "On-Site Utility" energy market.
This Northern California project consists of installing two Tecogen CM-75LE cogeneration modules, as part of an overall building upgrade. This new cogeneration system is expected to provide more than 80 percent of the building's electricity for common areas and residences. At the same time, waste heat will be recovered and used to heat residences and provide domestic hot water (DHW). This "free heat" will greatly reduce the need to operate the buildings' four existing boilers, resulting in an expected 35 percent reduction in CO2 emissions.
For large apartment complexes, especially in states like California with increasingly stringent environmental standards and higher energy costs, CHP systems from Tecogen are appealing because they promote energy efficiency while significantly reducing building operating costs, criteria pollutant emissions (contributors to smog), and greenhouse gas emissions. The project is expected to be completed in mid 2012.
"We understand that Tecogen was chosen because we have the strongest capabilities, by far the most extensive experience with buildings of this type, and an excellent long-term local track record," said Robert Panora, president and chief operating officer of Tecogen. "Our customer explored many equipment and installation options before selecting us. They visited other successful Tecogen installations in San Francisco. We provided the most detailed, accurate, and thoughtful analyses and proposals, and gave them an attractive price."
